bullet What is important to know about completing an application?

It is important to be as complete as possible in providing all the information required at the time of application. Be sure to specify any required degrees, graduation dates, certifications, licenses and document your work experience indicating corresponding employment dates. To be creditable, any required accredited college or university education must be verifiable from a reliable source within the United States or its territories or possessions, and information identifying that source must be submitted with the application. Additional information will not be accepted after the announcement closing date.

bullet Am I eligible to receive Veteran's preference?

Veteran's preference will be granted to Florida residents in accordance with Florida law to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans. Preference points will be awarded only if copies of supporting documentation (DD-214 and/or proof of receipt of disability benefits) is provided at time of application.

bullet What happens after I apply for a career opportunity?

After the closing date, applications are reviewed by a department representative . Only the most highly qualified applicants will be selected and scheduled for any examinations and/or interviews.

bullet What kind of exam (s) will I be taking?
Depending on the position, the examination process may consist of one or any combination of the following: written exam, performance exam, education and experience evaluation, oral exam and/or other job related examinations. A passing grade is required on every examination. If a written and/ or performance test is required, it will be conducted by the Human Resources Department.
bullet What if I need a special testing accommodation?
The City of Miramar provides necessary reasonable accommodation in the examination process upon request to persons with disabilities. Please call us at (954) 602-3800 upon submission of your application PRIOR to any scheduled examination. The Human Resources Department also maintains a telephone device for the hearing impaired at (954) 602-3802.

The length of time depends on the number of people who apply and the type of examination given.
bullet What happens after I take a test?
Applicants that pass will be scheduled for any additional testing or will be notified in writing of final score and position on the Civil Service Register. Applicants that fail will be notified in writing.
bullet When would I be considered for a position?
When a vacancy occurs, the Department Director with the vacancy must make a selection from candidates on a register. Employment is subject to the selected candidate passing a background verification and medical examination which includes a drug screening for all candidates working in safety sensitive positions.

The City of Miramar provides generous EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS to fit your needs. For benefits eligible employees, benefit eligibility begins 31 days following the date of employment.
