The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate today addressed members of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) attending their 2009 Mid-Year Meeting at FEMA's Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Md. "As emergency managers we must continue to make sure that preparedness, and especially the preparedness of the public, is a top priority," Fugate said. "What we do now to increase the preparedness of the public, who are a vital member of the emergency response team, will go a long way in increasing our success in responding to and recovering from the next disaster."

Swine Flu Information
The City of Miramar Division of Emergency Management is closely monitoring the national Public Health Alert and reviewing information as provided by the local, State and Federal public health authorities. We are posting some information on our web page concerning this Public Health Alert for your reference and precaution. The Broward County Health Department 24 hour information hotline is 954-467-4700 for any further questions on the Swine Flu.
The Florida Department of Health has set up a Swine Flu Information Line that gives information regarding precautions to take to avoid getting the flu, symptoms, how the disease is spread, and what the DOH is doing to protect its visitors and residents.
The toll free number is 1-800-775-8039.
